ASG to be a Leader in University's Annual Technology Conference

CLA Infotech 2002

May 3, 2002
Columbia, SC — On May 14, Advanced Solutions Group (ASG) will set a high-tech tone and kick off a day's worth of technology presentations and discussions at the second annual University of South Carolina InfoTech 2002, a three-day conference that brings together technology users and technologists in the university community.

ASG will entertain and inform the General Session audience with a multimedia show and live talks. The group's director, Dr. Joseph E. Johnson, will be joined on stage by Operations Chief Hoke Currie and other programming experts to present the group's skills, its growth throughout the last eleven years, and its innovative use of advanced and developing technologies to create new mediums for communication, research, and service.

A leading edge provider of technology solutions through university and government partnerships, ASG specializes in development of information systems with advanced capabilities, such as data warehouses and relational databases, web applications and online systems, tools for scientific modeling and data exploration, and real-time data access methods such as automated notification and voice recognition interfaces. The group features expertise in open-source technologies as well as proprietary software development tools, and it offers support with multimedia demonstrations for presentation and learning. A research division of the group studies and develops methods to address complex problems such as network security.

Established in 1991 when he was Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the College of Science and Mathematics, Dr. Johnson initiated the group through his research interest in advanced computational models, applications, and analysis techniques used in mathematics and physics. Since then, ASG has won numerous grant awards to provide technology solutions for the university and for federal, state, and local government. ASG continues to be a valuable technology resource and state-of-the-art service provider for the university, state, and community.
