Web System to Help USC Manage Grant Information
July 3, 2002
Columbia, SC — Tracking grants soon will be much easier and more efficient at the University of South Carolina. Advanced Solutions Group is developing a software system that will help top grant administrators more quickly and easily manage data for funding research, submission, and grant management.
ASG is designing the system for the Sponsored Programs and Research Office and the Office of Research Compliance. The new system will replace multiple older systems as well as much of the paper-based reporting and filing.
The project will create a single web repository to gather and store electronic documents, which may include scanned documents, Microsoft Word files, spreadsheets, and archived data. The system will have a secure web interface that different university personnel will find easy to use.
Grant executives will be able to easily search and review data as well as generate web-based reports to instantly summarize information. Plans include building a module to allow principal investigators to register themselves with the system and to replace or enhance existing campus mail-based notifications with automated electronic notification.
The project began in June 2002 and will continue into 2003.
